Report

The Tri-colours ventured over the border on Saturday to take on the Queanbeyan Tigers at a ground that has not been a happy hunting ground for the boys from Ainslie who have not recorded a win at Dairy Park for over 5 years. In good conditions both sides hit the ball hard early and with Tigers captain coach Armstrong kicking a goal early it looked like it was going to be another tough day for the lads from Ainslie. At the end of the first quarter the Tri-colours had fought back to be two points ahead and there were some encouraging signs with on-ballers  I lawless, Lewis and co more than matching it with there counterparts. The second quarter saw Ainslie finding plenty of ball but still not applying enough score board pressure even though by the end of the first half they led by some fourteen points.

After the main break a fired up Tigers unit came out firing, winning the centre clearance dominating the stoppages and with former Ainslie player Kavanagh starting to provide a target up forward the Tigers shot out to a sixteen point lead. However the Tri–colours kept their composure and by the end of the quarter had reduced the deficit to ten points. The last quarter was a roller coaster with first the Tigers dominating the play but failing to capitalize on their good play and then Ainslie doing the same. At the twenty eight minute mark with the Tri–colours nine points down enter speedy half forward A Mathis who stepped up to the plate to kick a valuable goal then apply pressure to assist in another and the Tri–colours found themselves in front at the right time to win a tight and tough contest.

Best players in a good team performance were defenders Argall and Daniel, on ballers Lawless, Lewis and Crook as well as forwards Inkster, Harris and Hughes.
