Premiership Reunions – 2012 marks the anniversary of several Ainslie Premierships.

In 1952 Ainslie 1st Grade went through the season undefeated to win a Championship by defeating Queanbeyan in the Grand Final by 14 points. 1952 was also the year the Clubhouse at Ainslie Oval was built, now named the Harry Gaylard Pavilion.

40 years ago in 1972 the Reserves won the Premiership with 1st Grade being runners up. The Reserves also won the Premiership the following year in 1973.

30 years ago in 1982 Ainslie won the 1st Grade Premiership by defeating Eastlake by 76 points. The 1st Grade team again went through the season undefeated. Coach “Cowboy” Neale kicked 125 goals for the season. Premierships were also won by the 1982 Reserves and U19 teams, the first time a Club had won all three in a season.

This achievement was repeated in 1983 with all three grades winning Premierships. 1st grade defeated Eastlake by 32 points. Kevin Neale as Captain Coach from 1978 to 1983 got the team into 6 successive Grand Finals for 4 Premierships. The Monaro Team also won the Premiership in 1983 under coach Robert Anderson. Known as Ando’s Commandos they defeated RMC by 16 points.

20 years ago in 1992 Ainslie under Captain Coach David Cloke won the Premiership in 1st Grade by defeating Queanbeyan by 10 points. This was the start or the record breaking run of 6 successive Premierships from 1992 to 1997. Ainslie also won the Reserves Premiership in 1992.

To celebrate the anniversaries of these Premierships Ainslie is holding a Premiership Reunion for all players, officials and supporters of the 1982/83and 1992/93 Premiership teams.  The Premiership reunion weekend will be held on 27/28 July. Ainslie will play Tuggeranong at Ainslie Oval on Saturday July 28. All interested players, officials and supporters are welcome. Anyone from “The Ainslie Family” is welcome to join in the weekend even there is no direct involvement in these particular era’s.
